EVERY SINGLE WORKING DAY IN THE UK TWO CONSTRUCTION WORKERS TAKE THEIR OWN LIFE

The Lighthouse Club - What We Do

We provide a confidential 24/7 Construction Industry Helpline which is available to the industry’s workforce and their families in the UK and Ireland. The Construction Industry Helpline is supported and marketed by the Considerate Constructors Scheme. Whether you’re an employer or an employee, the helpline provides the first point of contact for those who need to access a range of completely confidential support services including:

Emergency financial aid to construction families in crisis | Advice on occupational health and mental wellbeing | Support on legal, tax and dept management matters

We also support education and training initiatives within the industry and if someone is so badly injured or suffering from an illness which means they cannot return to their normal work, we can provide access to finance to re-train within our sector. We also finance socially disadvantaged young people and young offenders through education programmes to get into construction.

Our health and safety fund finances innovative and implementable ideas to improve health or safety in the work environment and on site.

Lighthouse Club - The Construction Industry Charity

The Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity has been delivering Charitable Welfare and Support to the Construction Community since 1956. It all began one evening when a group of gentlemen who had been attending a Ministry of Public Buildings and Works Exhibition on Tyneside, found themselves on the seafront at Whitley Bay.

Under the light of St Mary’s Lighthouse, they vowed to extend the goodwill they enjoyed at the show by starting something to unite and benefit the entire industry. From that day forward, the Lighthouse Club was formed. Soon after, the club introduced the Lighthouse Club Benevolent Fund, which offered aid and assistance to construction workers who suffered an accident or illness and started small by providing Christmas hampers.

Since its humble beginnings the charity has now distributed over £17.5 million to over 16,500 construction workers and their families and there are 21 regional clubs around the country that provide welfare support and manage regional fundraising activities and events.
